☐�  �   Decide whether or not you want to hire a moving company.

☐�  � It does not matter whether you are moving a few blocks or moving clear across town, a checklist helps to keep down the frustration, and it helps you remember what to do. It will help you remember those little things that are typically forgotten,

Get Organized

☐�  �   Before you start to pack take a notebook and create a checklist. Also, you can make a timeline to keep yourself on track. Being organized will help relieve the stress. Write down all important information about the move. Make sure you have phone numbers as well.

☐�  � The next step is to get labels for your boxes. It might be helpful to have different color labels for each room of your house. In this way you will know what goes in each room. You can also label your furniture, but make sure you stick the sticker in a place that will not be seen later. This is helpful because you might not be able to clear off the adhesive entirely.

Pack

☐�  �   Begin by packing the items that you do not use often. Make sure that your fragile items are wrapped, and put in a special box that is marked appropriately. Make sure that you use tape in an X shape across the mirrors. Make sure you have a rope or bungee cord to secure your belongings on the truck

Switch Utilities

☐�  � Make sure that you have spoken with your utility company, and the cut off day is correct. Also make sure that your utilities will be cut on the day you arrive in your new home. Make sure your phone company is notified as well. If you fail to do this you will end up paying additional charges. Make sure you follow up a day or two after you have moved to make sure that your utilities have been turned off in the old house.

☐�  � Make sure that you give your forwarding address to the post office. Change your address on any subscriptions and your bills in advance.

Clean

☐�  � A thorough cleaning is necessary for several reasons. You need to make sure you are not leaving anything, and it needs to be presentable for the next tenants. Just make sure to do the cleaning after you have packed everything. Make sure you clean the appliances as well

☐�  � Before you leave, make sure you lock up and provide a forwarding address. You wouldn’t want to be without important mail.
